Fall 2014 Student Success Scholarship

GateWay Community College is pleased to announce the Fall 2014 Student Success Scholarship for continuing GateWay students. Please note, this scholarship is a competitive scholarship, recipients will be chosen by scholarship committee. The scholarship is for students attending GateWay Community College and the calculation of funds awarded are calculated using GateWay credit hour enrollment only. The scholarship is non transferable to any other institution.  Aid awarded will be determined by the number of “viable” credit hours the student is enrolled in pertaining to their current program of study. “Viable” credits are classes the student is currently attending or if completed, were completed with a passing grade of P, C, or better. 

Criteria 
The applicant must: 
 Be a “continuing” student at GateWay enrolled and currently attending, student must have been enrolled in the Spring 2014 semester. 
 Have successfully completed the prior semester at GateWay by passing no less than 
2/3 of all attempted classes with a grade of P, C, or better). 
 Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) at GateWay of 2.50. 
 Be attending classes in your program of study and making progress toward program 
completion. 
 Have applied for federal aid (FAFSA) and have a completed financial aid file with 
available “need” as defined by the Federal Government for federal student aid. 
 Be an Arizona resident and a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States. 
 Meet HB2008 criteria.

Applications must be submitted on Academic Works, if you have not logged onto Academic Works, you will need to first create an account first.

Scholarship opens November 7, 2014.

2014-2015 Veteran's Scholarship at GateWay

Applicants for the Veteran's Scholarship must meet the following criteria.
  • U.S. Veteran currently enrolled at GateWay Community College
  • Meet a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Demonstrate financial need.
The expectations of the scholarship recipient will be:
  • Continuous enrollment at GateWay for the 2014-2015 academic year
  • Interaction with a faculty/staff mentor selected by GateWay's Veteran's Steering Committee.

Students should apply on Academic Works.  After completing the General Application, please remember to click on Opportunities to apply for this scholarship.

Deadline is April 28, 2014 7pm.

Academic Works Helpful Tips

If you have not registered for Academic Works yet, you will need to before you can apply for the Student Success Scholarship or the Biology Scholarship.

You can register by clicking on Academic Works.  After you register and log-in you will be asked to answer several questions which is the General Application.  Once you complete the General Application you should click on Opportunities and then Ours, which will show you all scholarship applications that are open for GateWay.  You will then need to click on the right hand side that says apply and complete any other questions for that scholarship.

Once you have completed your scholarship applications, you can click on Applications and it will show under Active which scholarships that you have applied for.

AZ Radiological Society Scholarship

GateWay Community College is pleased to announce the AZ Radiological Society Scholarship for GateWay students.  Please note, this scholarship is for GateWay students only and is non transferable to any other institution. 

Please review the qualifications listed below and submit application to GateWay’s Financial Aid Office.

Qualifications
The applicant must
§  Be a student at GateWay enrolled and currently attending.
§  Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) at GateWay of 3.0
§  Have applied for federal aid and have a completed financial aid file with available “need” as defined by the Federal Government for federal student aid.
§  Be an Arizona resident and a citizen or eligible non-citizen.
§  Demonstrate additional continuing education (such as workshops, seminars, and District or Society meetings).



Scholarship Deadline is Friday April 11, 2014 at 5pm.  Scholarship applications should be submitted to Enrollment Services in the IE Building. 

Spring 2014 Financial Literacy Scholarship

Catholic Charities (in collaboration with Gateway Community College) will provide two opportunities in March for students to attend their Financial Literacy Workshop. To enhance this opportunity for student, Gateway is offering a scholarship to qualifying Gateway students who attend one of the sessions.

The scholarship is for $100 for attendance of the full Three hour session.

The Criteria for the scholarship is as follows:
·         Cannot have received a prior scholarship for attendance of a Financial Literacy event.
·         Must be an Arizona Resident and either a citizen of the United States, or an eligible non-citizen
·         Must be currently registered this semester at Gateway in at least 3 credit hours.
·         Must have applied for Federal Aid (and list Gateway on their FAFSA) and have completed the application process.
·         Must have “Need” as determined by federal guidelines. (Students that are awarded Pell Grant or a Subsidized loan, Typically have “Need”)
·         Must attend one of the sessions arriving on time and staying through the entire session. Students must have proof of attendance. 

Workshops will be held Wednesday March 26, 2014 from 5:30-8:30pm and Thursday March 27, 2014 from 5:30-8:30pm in room CH#1024.

Students will need to register for the workshop they wish to attend by contacting Brittany Gomez, whose number can be found on the flyer.

2014 Summer Study Abroad Scholarship

GateWay Community College is offering scholarships of $250 or $500 each to
qualified students who are participating in a Maricopa Colleges Study Abroad
Program.

In order to qualify for the award, the student must meet the following
conditions:
1. Be enrolled in GateWay Community College or another Maricopa Community
College during the Spring 2014 semester as an Arizona resident.
2. Have earned a GPA at MCCD of at least 2.5 with at least 3 credit hours. The
applicant must provide a recent transcript from the college. Unofficial
transcripts are acceptable.
3. Plan to take the Maricopa Study Abroad course(s) for a grade.
4. Write a 500 word (two pages) essay explaining what he or she hopes to gain by
participating in the MCCCD Summer Program. These are the guide questions::

  • What are your educational goals for studying in Prague or your program of choice and how do you plan to achieve them?
  • Have you ever traveled outside of the United States?  If so, where have you been and what have you learned from your experience?
  • Why did you choose to sign up for the Prague study abroad program or other study abroad program? 
  • Propose an outcome project, such as making a display or hosting a presentation about your experience at GateWay after the trip.  This outcome is required for scholarship recipients.  Feel free to be creative about your project! 
5. Obtain a letter of recommendation from one GateWay Community College
faculty member or from your current Maricopa Community College.


The essay, the transcript and the application form must be turned in to 
the International Education Office in IE-3115 by March 28, 2014 in order to 
guarantee consideration for this award. Incomplete application will not be 
reviewed

Basic Requirements:
  • Must be a high school senior or recent High School graduate (with in last 2 years) at the time of application.
  • Attend or plan to attend a Maricopa Community College in Maricopa County, Arizona and be willing to provide proof of registration.
  • Have chosen a public service career in one of the following fields as a direction of study.
    • Education & Teaching
    • Social Work
    • Behavioral Health
    • Community Health Worker
    • Criminal Justice
    • Fire Fighter/EMT/Paramedic
    • Volunteer Coordinator
    • Non Profit Management
  • write a 400-600 word essay on the topic of teen dating violence.
  • write a 400-600 word essay explaining:
    • Applicants need for the scholarship
    • Educational goals in public service
    • What have you done to further your educational goals and how will this scholarship help you attain those goals
    • Volunteer experience.
  • Complete and attach application form.
  • Provide High School transcript.
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Submit a minimum of two [2] letters of recommendation but not more than three [3].
    • 1-letter must be from a personal perspective.
    • 1-letter must be from an academic perspective.

VFW 'Sports Clips Help A Hero' Scholarship

VFW and one of its major supporters, Sport Clips Haircuts, have again partnered to help our veterans and their families. The VFW "Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship" will provide service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. It’s just another way to say “thank you” to those who deserve it the most! Please see below for full details on the scholarship program and to apply.


HERE ARE THE DETAILS:

  • Scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded to qualified applicants
  • Limited to one per family per semester
  • Applications for the 2014 fall semester will be accepted starting January 1, 2014. Deadline for applications is April 30, 2014
  • Scholarships will be awarded for spring 2014 semester beginning January 2014 and for fall 2014 semester beginning July 2014
  • Scholarships must be used by the end of the school semester for which the veteran is applying or they will become null and void
  • Scholarships will be paid directly to accredited schools

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Be a citizen of the United States 
  • Be retired, honorably discharged, active duty, or a member of the National Guard or Reserve
  • Have completed Basic Training and follow-on training (Advanced Individual Training, Technical school, etc.)
  • Have a military rank of E-5 or below
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
  • Participate in, be accepted to or currently enrolled in a VA-approved program or school at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • If selected, authorize the VFW and Sport Clips, Inc. to announce and publish award of your scholarship. If awarded a scholarship, the recipient's name, city, state, photograph and essay may be used for promotional purposes by the VFW and Sport Clips, Inc. without further consent from the recipient

Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation United States Armed Forces Veterans Assistance Scholarship

United States Armed Forces Veterans attending one of the Maricopa Community Colleges may be eligible for this scholarship.  The award would cover expenses that the GI Bill does not.  Amount and number of awards may vary depending on availability of funds.


Eligibility
Student must be currently enrolled and in good standing, with an endorsement from the College Veteran's Coordinator on their application.
 Support including but not limited to the following:
·        Transportation/Bus  assistance

·        Tuition, books and fees

Application should be completed and turned into a VA Rep in Enrollment Services in the IEB.


Disney -Student Veterans of America Scholarship

This spring, in partnership with Student Veterans of America, Heroes Work Here will award three (3) scholarships at $10,000 each to student veterans pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). The three scholarship awardees will also be guaranteed an interview for an internship with The Walt Disney Company! 

Eligibility
Eligible student veterans must meet the below outlined minimum criteria:
  • Be pursuing a degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in a designated STEM program
  • Be enrolled for the 2014/2015 academic year
  • Submit proof of military service (DD214)
  • Submit proof of enrollment in an accredited U.S. institution of higher education (transcript)
  • Submit one (1) letter of recommendation demonstrating service to others
  • Submit one (1) letter of recommendation demonstrating applicant's commitment to making a positive impact in the community
  • Submit one (1) essay in response to the below prompt
